Hello again! :) Long time no see!

So it’s been a couple of years since I’ve posted on here…. yeah… well… you know how that thing called life happens sometimes…

Anyways, we are now well established in our home. We have 37 chickens, 1 turkey, 8 goats, 5 pigs, 3 bunnies, 4 dogs, 2 cats, and a lizard. I haven’t been quite so successful with the gardening yet. Apparently I have the blackest thumb in the world! :/ But seriously, I think that we have some soil problems, so I’m in the process of making compost so that maybe I can have a good garden next year! Loving the farm life so far though!!

In the fitness front, I ended up having to give up Crossfit, sadly. I loved it so much, but it was just not working with the rest of my life at all. Now I am an Independent Beachbody Coach! I run accountability groups online (mainly through Facebook), where I try to help inspire and motivate others to really push for their goals where health and fitness are concerned. My personal goal is to have my coaching business in the place that I need it to be by this time next year so that I can do that full time from wherever the road leads!

I do plan on posting on this site some more now that I’m finally getting back to my blogging, but I do not promise that it will be daily… I am still trying to figure out the best balance for my life and where blogging can fit into it best.

If you want to see committed regular posts, I recommend going to my new LLE Fitness blog at http://www.livefitlovefiteatfit.com . There I will be posting mainly about my fitness journey and getting real with you about what’s going on in that area of my life. I will be keeping this blog, but primarily for posting about farmlife stuff! 🙂 You know, goats are crazy, and we end up with some of the funniest stories from the critters that we keep! 🙂

Retraining my evening routine

One thing that I love doing I’d reading. The problem is that I stay so busy that I rarely find the time to pick up a book. Recently, I have become more aware of just how little I allow myself to de-stress. As a working mom and military wife, I am usually going from the moment my alarm goes off at 5am until I finally lay down usually around 10:30-11pm.
Well, I have decided that I will be implementing a new evening routine. My new cut off time for working around the house (including after dinner dishes) is 8pm. By that time, kids should already be showered, meaning I can shower myself before tucking kids in at 8:30. Then I will brush my teeth and hair and settle in to read for 30min-1hr, turning my light off to sleep no later than 9:30.
This is my new challenge to myself. My goal in all of this is to take better care of my mental and emotional health so that I can be an even more awesome version of the person I already am.

New personal exercise programming

The busiest week of the year has come and gone, and I somehow managed to survive! The last week in August every year consists of 1. the first week of school, 2. my son’s birthday, 3. my daughter’s birthday, 4. my anniversary, and 5. my birthday. It’s always a hectic week to say the least. Throw in the recent move, and it was INSANE! Honestly, most of it is a complete blur. I just know that I’m here now, living, breathing, and functioning in a house that somehow is not a complete disaster.

In other news, I started working out again after the hiatus that came with the move. I recently signed up for EP Life Fit, which I intend on being my main exercise program. It’s only $20/month, and they have a special forum set up where you can post videos of your movements for the moderators to critique and make sure that you are doing them correctly to help prevent injury. It’s pretty cool. Check it out!

This decision came in the wake of my local crossfit box changing their programing to be a series of 45 minute grueling HIIT metcons EVERY DAY. In Crossfit, you expect to have the occasional workout that is a long killer, but that should not be a daily occurrence. Most people already have enough stress in their lives and tend to carry that extra bit of cortisol fat in the midsection. Doing HIIT (high intensity interval training) sessions that are long in duration on a daily basis does not help put hormones back in order. These super long sessions should be kept to once a week tops, and that for someone who has their eating habits, sleep, and general stress relief in order. E P Life Fit programming is based mainly around strength training and mobility, with short HIIT style “metcons” that are posted every other day. Sarah and Jason also make themselves available in the forum as well as in their podcast “The Paleo Lifestyle and Fitness Podcast” (a GREAT resource for TONS of free information).

So, my plan is to stick mainly with the E P Lift Fit programming, supplemented by a  weekly visit to the Crossfit box, and the occasional game of chase in the back yard with the kiddos. Of course, the box trips are still on hold for at least a couple more weeks due to the overtime that I am currently having to work. 6-10s doesn’t allow much time for anything outside the home other than church and grocery shopping. And on that note, I’m off to bed (still trying to get MY sleep in order).

Time flies when you’re having fun!

I’m pretty sure that the definition of the word “fun” in that phrase can be very loosely translated to mean any number of things. Work, for example. We have been working our tails off around here since moving. There seems to be no end in sight of all the stuff that we have to get done just to get settled. AND it came down the pipes last Wednesday, that we are working Fridays and Saturdays from here until the end of September. We could totally use the money since we’ve managed to sink so much into this new house already, but I really need the time to be able to work on getting stuff done too.
Crossfit has taken a hiatus for the time being due to the fact that I just can’t seem to find the time for it between the 10 hour work days 6 days a week, normal daily things that must be done (cooking, cleaning, taking care of kids, etc.), and trying to clean up and get this place livable. We have started pulling up the carpet in the boy’s room in hopes that he will get to sleep in it at least a couple of nights before school starts. Not really sure when we are going to get a chance to finish it though.
Tomorrow evening, we have meet the teacher at 2 different schools that are clear across town from each other. Thursday is praise practice at church. Wednesday and Friday, I have chiropractic appointments of which the purpose is to help eliminate my migraines (btw, turns out I have a MAJOR subluxation of my C3 vertebrae towards the right side of my body which is most likely triggering my migraines…so I’m NOT crazy!). I think I am going to request Saturday off work because I still have to get school clothes and supplies for the kids, finish making the boy’s room suitable for human habitation, and I have 3 birthdays (2 of them are our children and the other is my grandmother) and 1 baby shower happening this weekend that we have going on. Wow. I’m getting a little more stressed out just writing this all down…

Maybe I should go to bed before I get myself too worked up to go to sleep. Lord knows that I’m going to need it!

Thankfully, I’ve cleaned my eating habits back up since moving, so at least I feel good physically…?

Gotta love a productive weekend!

More unpacking, some painting, and fence building later, this house is beginning to look way more like a home. Probably the most dramatic change over this weekend was the painting of the entryway and hallway. This is what we started with…

It was kind of scary and had to go. So first we put 2 layers of Kilz on it…

By the time we were done with that part, we had to get out of the fume infested house for a couple of hours. None of us realized how high we were on the fumes until we walked outside into the fresh air. Man, that stuff is toxic!! Anyways, at the end of the day, this is what the entryway and hallway looked like:

It feels so much cleaner than before! And those two handsome men are my eldest and my hubs. Aren’t they adorable with their goofy selves?!?

Anyways. It’s been a long weekend, and tomorrow starts a new workweek. Can’t we just skip to next weekend?

Work day planning!

I don’t really have too much to say that would be interesting to anyone else here, but I’m still totally jazzed about having a laptop to use for blogging. So, I’m dropping in a note. Tomorrow is our first big work day here.

The hubs is working on laying fencing down so that we can get our doggies back home. :)  I miss them, and I will be working on getting our hallway and possibly the kitchen painted. Right now our hallway is painted white with a dark pinkish red sponge painted all over. It is HIDEOUS! The kitchen is a bright yellow which isn’t as bad, but it still needs to go. We are painting it a light brownish green with an eggshell white for the trim, doors, and cabinets. It will be much prettier once it is all said and done.

Anyways. The hubs is harassing me, and we need to get to sleep so that we can be well rested when 6am comes around. Goodnight!

Happy Anniversary!!… a few weeks early…

So… good news, WordPress! My hubs surprised me this evening by taking me to Best Buy to get a new laptop for my early anniversary present!!! Yay!!!!! I am SUPER geeked about finally having a laptop and not having to type out my blog entries on my iPhone. It’s absolutely wonderful to be able to type on an actual keyboard. *Squee!!!!*

The reason why I have not updated recently is because these last couple of weeks have been insane. We spent all last week working on packing up the house to get ready for the move that we made this last Saturday. We have upgraded from a little over 1200 sq. ft. to over 2000 sq. ft. not counting the guest house out back. It is SO nice to have room to live in. We went from a bathroom that was about the size of a normal half bath, to one that is about 4 times that size PLUS a half bath in the master bedroom. This week, we have been working on unpacking as we go. There was a lot of cleaning to do here before we could unpack. Apparently, the previous tenants didn’t ever clean out their cabinets, or the kitty litter box that they had on the carpet in one of the back bedrooms (I will be shampooing that carpet several times this weekend in an attempt to not have to recarpet just yet).

Last week, I did make it to Crossfit a couple of times, but I didn’t make it at all this week. I will say that I do not feel the least bit guilty about that due to the fact that we have had plenty of manual labor that we have been doing since moving in. The WOD last Tuesday was a killer! It was 3 rounds for time of 21 wall balls, 15 ring push ups (PAIN!), 9 20″ box jumps, run 200m, 21 situps, 15 35# kettlebell swings, 9 65# clean & jerk/snatch, and run another 200m. By the end of round 1, I thought I was dying! Somehow, seeing everyone else struggle helped push me through. I eventually finished the entire workout in 45:33. I’m fairly certain that it took me the rest of the week to fully recover from that one alone…

In the nutrition realm, I have once again started enforcing gluten free in our household. Things have slowed down enough that I am able to take the time to have real food available for the family, even when I am not home. It took a bit to get back in the swing of things after recovering from surgery, and dealing with a move, but we’re on the right track again. Now, I just need to get the hubs and the mom in law on board. I know that the boy is getting less bad stuff overall, but I believe that it can’t really do much good on helping him deal with things unless gluten at the very least is pulled completely out. I personally would like to have him on full paleo (maybe even a ketogenic version) in order to help with his behavioral issues. We did get a notice that he has been moved from the 10 month waiting list to be evaluated for Asperger’s to the 6-9 month waiting list. I plan on meeting with a representative from the school district next week to see if there is any screening they could do to maybe go ahead and get him in a more appropriate class setting even though we do not have a diagnosis yet.

So, now that I have a laptop (by the way, so far Windows 8 sucks), I plan on blogging more. I still have quite a few things that I need to figure out on this thing in order to post pictures and stuff. Some of the prompts on this thing are confusing. I still can’t find how to add tags to the blog post, or how to look at them in a more normal way. The weird side scrolling that seems to be prominent is driving me nuts. If anyone has any tips on putting up with this stupid OS, please please PLEASE share! And on that note, I’m off to bed!
